Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry)

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also known as physiatry, aims to restore and enhance functional ability for patients with physical impairments or disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Regional Health’s physiatrists strive to maximize independence for daily activities and improve overall quality of life. They treat brain injuries, congenital and childhood-onset physical impairments, spine-related pain and dysfunction, occupational injuries, orthopedic and sports injuries and chronic pain.

Our pediatric physiatrists are trained to diagnose a child’s problem and design a treatment plan especially for them. Understanding the effects of conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida or muscular dystrophy means they can ease discomfort and improve everyday movement and function for your child.

Every one of our physiatrists works with a team of professionals who help them with specific activities, such as occupational therapy, pain management, speech therapy and sports medicine.
