Monument Health Rapid City Hospital Recognizes DAISY Winner

RAPID CITY, S.D. (August 8, 2018) – Niesha Ginn, a registered nurse at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Ginn was nominated by a patient’s wife for her kindness, compassion and care.

“My husband recently ended up in the hospital with symptoms of a stroke, and one nurse really stood out: Niesha Ginn. … (He) was confused and struggling to find his words during the first couple days. She could see he was struggling on the phone with me and in a very compassionate, caring way suggested that she speak with me,” the patient’s wife wrote. “(He) described her as having ‘peaceful way about her…we really connected.’ Niesha demonstrated care, compassion, and empathy while being skilled and knowledgeable.”

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.

Nurses in the Monument Health Rapid City Market are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. To nominate a Monument Health nurse for the DAISY Award, please visit regionalhealth.org/daisy.
