Monument Health-EXOS, Rapid Skillz team up to offer athletic training options

RAPID CITY, S.D. (8/8/19) – Monument Health Sports Performance Institute Powered by EXOS has partnered with Rapid Skillz Athletic Training to provide a range of training options for athletes in the Black Hills.

The partnership will combine each organization’s training and facilities for greatest possible athletic opportunity for area athletes. The agreement will allow some athletes to choose dual memberships, using both facilities to improve all-around ability and skill in specific sports.

To kick off the new partnership, an open house is set for 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Rapid Skillz facility at 840 Centre St. Visitors will be able to tour the facility, try out the batting cages and use the other equipment. Prizes will be given away, and one person will win a new Trek 820 bicycle from Scheels.

Monument Health’s performance training program offers athletes of all ages and skill levels the same methodology and intensity that professional athletes use. “We prepare athletes to get the most out of their bodies by improving core athletic performance in addition to strength, endurance and flexibility,” said Mike Latour, System Director of Musculoskeletal Care at Monument Health. “Our goal is to enhance performance and decrease injuries.”

Located in the Monument Health Orthopedic & Specialty Hospital, the Sports Performance Institute Powered by EXOS has performance coach-led group classes as well as a variety of exercise equipment that focus on all aspects of human performance.

Rapid Skillz trains athletes to take core skills and apply them within specific sports and game conditions. The goal is to develop player skills, understanding and ability to execute plays at the highest levels of their sport and age group.

“We’re working together to improve the athletic skills and training that is available to athletes of all ages,” said Coach AJ Zolicoffer, President of Rapid Skillz Athletic Training.

The Rapid Skillz facility, which opened in February on East Centre Street, has batting cages, basketball/volleyball courts, 60 yards of turf with soccer goals and punching bags.

Rapid Skillz also hosts basketball and volleyball tournaments for middle and high school athletes. Through the agreement, Monument Health Sports Performance Institute will provide certified athletic trainers (ATC) during these events.
