‘Melanoma Monday’ free screenings set for May 6

RAPID CITY, S.D.  – Regional Health Dermatologists in Rapid City and in Spearfish will be participating in the annual Melanoma Monday event, which is May 6.

In Rapid City, Siri Knutsen-Larson, M.D., and Roger Knutsen, M.D., will partner with Rapid City Medical Center’s Skin Institute to provide free skin cancer screenings at the Community Health Center of the Black Hills, 350 Pine St., in Rapid City from 6 p.m. to 7:45 pm. In Spearfish, Christopher Gasbarre, D.O., and Gregory Larson, Physician Assistant, will provide free skin cancer screenings at Regional Health Dermatology, 550 E. Colorado Blvd., from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

To schedule your free skin cancer screening in Rapid City, call 605-755-7100. For Spearfish, call 605-717-8860.

“Melanoma is the deadliest of skin cancers, and early diagnosis is critical to successful treatment,” said Dr. Knutsen-Larson. “In May, most of us are headed outdoors for summer activities. This is a good time to raise awareness about melanoma and other skin cancers.”

Melanoma Monday is the first Monday of May, which is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. One in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. However, when found early melanoma is highly treatable, which is why regular skin checks and events like Melanoma Monday are important.
